Meet Dianna Wood from TheWoodsSecretGarden on Etsy

Welcome Dianna, I am so excited to have you here today!  Would you mind sharing a bit about yourself and you shop with us?

First, what is the name and link of your Etsy shop?   www.thewoodssecretgarden.etsy.com

How has your experience been on Etsy?  Interesting.   After 8 months, I realized that I had become a “Click Robot” and I think I might start a recovery group for all those who want to break the addiction.  I think I will leave it at that.

What has been your most exciting moment as an artist here on Etsy?  Meeting so many sisters-in-Christ from all over the world and, through that, being able to use my art to bless others in a special way.  (Too long a story to tell here.)

Do you have any advice for new Etsy shop owners?   I am still learning myself.

How long have you been an artist? As long as I can remember.  My earliest recollection was making paper mache puppets out of old newspapers and having a puppet show out of my bedroom window  using the drapes as the stage curtains.  My favorite was the giraffe!   I was 4 years old.  Since then I have experimented in just about every creative medium known to man.

What does the inspiration come from for your designs?  My love for the truth found only in Christ and my desire to show His beauty to a lost and dying world.  I think many are really hungry for TRUTH

If you had just a “tweet” (140 chars) to say something about you and your art, what would you say?  Read the Word, Love the Word, Know the Word, Live inthe light of the Word, and by all means “Wear the WORD”

How would you characterize your work?  Not for everyone, that is for sure.

How do you feel when people interpret your artwork differently?  It’s expected.  It’s pretty straightforward, though.  I don’t think interpretation is the issue.

Describe your workshops for us:  We live in a 560 square foot one bedroom apartment.  We moved the bed into the living room and use the bedroom as a study, a workshop and a dressing room.

What’s the hardest part of being an artist?   Not enough time to get things out of my head and into reality.  I work full-time in law enforcement and also help my husband with his ministry.

How many hours a day do you create?  Too few.  Approx 3 to 4 if possible.  However, at 52 years of age, I am starting to feel the effects of sleep deprivation.  Not recommended (smiling)

How does creating art make you feel?   Frustrated, Joyful, Depressed, Excited, Challenged.

“What is Art?” is certainly too big of a question to ask here, but what do you hope your audience takes away from your art? What statement do you hope to make?  My desire is that the beauty of the Lord and the glory of God is seen.  My desire would be to paint the beauty of Christ into souls one brush stroke at a time.  But, I feel that way about my life in general.

What are your artistic goals? My goal is to bless others with the gifts God has given me.  If I could, I would do what I do for free and hope one day that will be a possibility.

How have you handled the business side of being an artist?  Smiling. I haven’t had to.   I don't make a great deal of sales.  I pay myself $10.00 an hour, so some of my items are pretty expensive.  If a company mass produced, probably more people could afford and therefore more would be able to own a piece of my wearable art.

Where else on the internet can we find your work besides Etsy?
Well, being somewhat techno-challenged, owning an “ancient” computer with a high-speed (NOT) internet connection, I am somewhat limited.  However, my brilliant nephew, who is a Christian Rap artist and techno guru, finally convinced me to create a product Facebook page.  You can visit that here:  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Wear-the-WORD/412263378821782  and I would greatly appreciate it if you would all share my work on your Facebooks.  I have found many people really find it enjoyable and inspiring.

Thank you so much for sharing your BEAUTIFUL artwork with us and for this very inspiring interview!

Interview with the Christine from the WanderingSaint

Christian Elite Teams hope is to be able to interview  and a little exposure to our fellow on-line artist /shopkeepers by supporting others that are creating unique handmade items and also bringing back to life Vintage items that add more beauty to our world.

My first etsy artist/shopkeeper interview with the very wonderful Christine Hartman from the WanderingSaint on Etsy.  Christine is also a leader a on Christian Elite Team, and does a wonderful job helping and supporting our team mates!

What is the name of your Etsy shop and link?  The name of my shop is WanderingSaint. the link is: www.etsy.com/shop/WanderingSaint

How has your experience been on Etsy?  My experience on Etsy has been pretty wonderful. For the first month I sold nothing, then exactly one month to the day I started selling!

What has been your most exciting moment as an artist here on Etsy?  My most exciting moment as an artist came when I sold the pair of up-cycled earrings I designed and created out of a metal strainer! Not my most expensive item by far, but the first sold item that I designed and created.

Do you have any advice for new Etsy shop owners? Advice? Be patient. Believe in yourself and your Higher Power. Mine is the Creator of the Universe. DO NOT get caught up in the "drama" of etsy this and etsy that on all the other team sites, you will make yourself crazy.  Promote free outside as much as you can. wanelo, pinterest, I personally don't do facebook, but maybe it could work for others.

How long have you been an artist?   My mother taught me sewing, crocheting and crafts by the time I was 8. She died when I was 11, and I have used art as a way to stay connected.

Who or what had the greatest influence on you as you developed as an artist? My inspiration comes from everything, I guess. I like all kinds of eclectic stuff, and I have the mantra "I can make something out of this". Plus, I have never been well-off financially, and have had to "make do" with leftovers or hand me downs.   I am a Believer+Bohemian=Artist. I love the eclectic and the traditional. Jewelry, Christmas, Crafts, whatever.

How would you characterize your work?   I would characterize my work as Bohemian, Creative, Eclectic

How do you feel when people interpret your artwork differently?  It's okay when people interpret differently, it gives me another look into it.

Describe your workshops for us:  Ha! My workshop is my 1950 Formica kitchen table OR my easy chair next to my husband in the evenings

What’s the hardest part of being an artist? The hardest part sometimes is not having the vision I need at the moment. Not having the financial means to carry through everything I envision.

How many hours a day do you create?  I create between 2-4 hours a day.

How does creating art make you feel?  I feel satisfied when I finish a project, especially one that I know I am the only one to do (strainer earrings).

“What is Art?” is certainly too big of a question to ask here, but what do you hope your audience takes away from your art? What statement do you hope to make?  I hope people take away the knowledge that Art in America , traditional Art, Folk Art, is alive and well.

What are your artistic goals?    My artistic goals are to create more, to design and create items, and signature pieces. I eventually want my own blog or something. But I just learned Pinterest and wanelo so it may take a minute!

How have you handled the business side of being an artist?   Hmmm. By the business side, you mean all these papers and lists, and stacks of stuff? I haven't lost anything, but I one of my September goals is to get more organized. I will not have a successful business if I don't.

Where else on the internet can we find your work besides Etsy?  I am on Pinterest under Christine Hartman, and wanelo under Wandering Saint.

Christine, thank you so much for this lovely interview and for being such an inspiring leader on our team!

Our first featured treasure is from kimberliedykeman with this beautiful P.O.P. Life™ Cross is entitled “peacock”. These hand-made crosses perfectly complement both modern and traditional home decors. Each piece is truly one of a kind and goes through several stages of creation. When painted with layers of colorful of acrylics, inks and oils, the result is a gorgeous, weathered Old World look. Varnish seals the work and adds long lasting protection from fading and elements. Back is flat with built-in keyhole or sawtooth hanger, for easy hanging or a table display. Each is a labor of love and is signed, dated and titled. Measures approx 8” x 4 ½”.

Mondays shop of the day is...

Mondays shop of the day is TheBloomingFigTree

We specialize in making flowers for all occasions for babies, big girls, and adults. Our flowers can be put on headbands, brooch pins, and hair clips. Come "like" us on Facebook we sell products there too!

I'm a stay at home mom with two kiddos, one a boy and my most recent, a girl. Without her I would never have started this business. She inspired me to show my true girly side.

I've been an artist my whole life and even studied art studio in college but it's been years since I've been creatively fulfilled, until now. My love, rather my obsession, with flowers has been constant. I'm an ardent gardener and am one of those crazy ladies that talks to her plants. Since I've known how to draw it's always been of flowers. My love affair with painting was also with flowers. It seems only fitting that now I've taken on a sculptural technique with flowers. I'm thrilled to see where this new endeavor leads me.

The Blooming Fig Tree has much meaning in its name. Throughout the Bible the fig tree is a reference to Israel, however it is always dry, brittle, dead, or not producing fruit. This represents Israel's rebellion against God and how God turned from the fig tree and it became dry. In Revelation, the end of the Bible and the teaching of the end times, the Fig Tree begins to bloom. It is a sign that Jesus is returning to us soon. Israel, as all know, is now a nation and blooms. Jesus is returning soon. The Blooming Fig Tree reminds us to watch for Him!
